Saratoga Driving Association is a community of individuals and families that enjoy driving horses, ponies and other equines. We are a community because of our interest in driving. We have this club so that we can have activities that individually we could not do. As club members we can bring trainers, speakers, and plan events that promote driving and offer the opportunity to bring enjoyment of driving to our members and our animals.
Some members are Combined Driving enthusiasts, and some prefer Pleasure Drives in the country, some have a commercial interest. Some members are young, and others are not. Some equines have long ears, and others have little bitty ears that fit in your hand. Some are green, and some are polished veterans, and some are famous with magazine covers, and a fan club.
Not all of our members are actively drivers, some enjoy participating with us, or are interested in carriages, and enjoy the driving community and its activities. We are mostly located in the counties around Albany, New York, though some of our members live in Connecticut, Plattsburg, Cherry Valley, or New Hampshire.
Before there was a Saratoga Driving Association there was the Columbia County Coaching Society primarily based in Columbia County. Then the Saratoga Driving Association was formed for the Saratoga area. Many of the members belonged to both clubs, and when the Columbia County Coaching Society disbanded, all the members were invited to join the Saratoga club. Since that time the SDA covers the entire capitol district and areas around.
Our club has been very active these last few years and has a calendar of activities throughout the year. Our membership has expanded greatly, and as more people come on board, we are able to plan out more activities to meet individual interests.
We are governed by Officers and a Board of Directors elected at the Annual meeting held in the beginning of November each year. There are four officers: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and four Board members. We actively seek input from all members in the club and are always seeking new ideas, and finding new places to drive.
